Fintech Success Strategies: Killer Content To Look Out For At MoneyFest by Money20/20

Much has been reported on the buoyancy of fintech during the pandemic. British budgeting app Chip raised over £10.7m in September. While at the other end of the spectrum Robinhood, the US stock trading app, raised $280m in May. According to PitchBook data and a recent article by Isabel Woodford in Sifted, there were 420 “paytech” deals globally (across acquisitions and investments) in the second quarter of 2020, overtaking the entire number of deals for 2019. All is rosy….right?

Well, a solid proportion of the content at this year’s first ever digital iteration of MoneyFest by Money20/20 is dedicated to advising fintechs on the strategies for success in a post Covid world. It is clear that this new normal is still very new, and needs careful navigation.

We’ve taken a look at the MoneyFest agenda to highlight some of the conversational threads and sessions to attend that will help keep fintechs heading in the right direction.

A flourishing future for fintechs

A number of sessions will look at the right environment to support fintech. On Monday 26th October at 2.47pm GMT (yes the agenda is, apparently, that specific) a finance minister, a management consultant and a tech exec will come together to discuss how everything from Government support to funding opportunities from strategic investors can support a flourishing future for fintechs.

Munish Varma from Softbanks’ Vision Fund – who surely have one of the most comprehensive perspectives on the fintech landscape today – and Carol Grunberg from NorthWestern Mutual – who has possibly the coolest job titles as GM of Money Movement and Innovation – will at 3.05pm GMT on Thursday 29th October discuss the trends that will shape the next fintech success stories.

Digital transformation transformed

Grab a beer for the session at 6.29pm GMT on Wednesday 28th October with CEO’s ‘unplugged’ (are they ever?!) discussing “extreme digitisation”. The technologies are familiar, not extreme (AI, CX et al), but the speed at which many FIs had to adopt such technologies from legacy systems during the pandemic was indeed more extreme.

Successful partnerships laid bare can offer other fintechs paradigms to follow. Ultimate fintech influencer Adam Dell will be in conversation with Ainsley Harris from Fast Company at 5.11 GMT on Thursday 29th to delve even further into customer experience in consumer banking specifically.

Surviving competitive threats

So you have survived the pandemic and all it brought in its wake, maybe you even thrived. But fintechs can’t rest on their laurels! The session at 3.29pm GMT on Monday 26th October a fintech (PayKey), a tech company (Huawei) and an economist will discuss what the impact of big tech putting its big foot in payments might be.

Not long after at 5.22pm on Monday 26th October, we will hear from the 3 finalists of the Money Tank start-up competition. The competitive landscape just got even hotter!

Watch out for our payments highlights preview later this week.
